(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The roadside bomb reportedly detonated on Thursday south of the main city of Hillah, leaving nine more people injured.
Three more people have been injured in a separate bomb attack in a nearby area.
Both attacks targeted Shia pilgrims headed for the southern holy city of Karbala to mark the 40th day after Ashura.
Ashura, the 10th day of the Islamic calendar month of Muharram, marks the martyrdom of the Imam Hussein (PBUH), the grandson of the Prophet Mohammad (PBHU).
Violence in Iraq has surged since the government issued an arrest warrant for the country's Vice President Tariq al-Heshemi, who has been charged with running a terror squad.

The Iraqi leader said it would be up to the judges to decide on Hashemi's charges and where he should stand trial.
Baghdad has demanded that President of the Kurdistan Regional Government Massoud Barzani and Iraqi President Jalal Talabani hand Hashemi over to the Iraqi judiciary.
